Rules of engagement
Terms of Service
Version 0.2 · Updated October 10, 2026 · Draft pending legal approval
Operative Anyone is an invitation-only game for consenting adults. A game rule or assignment never authorizes dangerous behavior, unwanted contact or breaking the law. Safety and consent always come first.
1. Agreement and scope
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to the Operative Anyone website, accounts, private operations, game features and themed cover experiences (the "Service"). The Service is operated under the Operative Anyone name; the final legal operator identity and contact details must be published before general release. Creating an account, joining an operation or using the Service signifies agreement to the applicable terms presented at that time. A Director's additional rules cannot override these Terms, applicable law or another person's consent.
These Terms are a working draft. Any binding version must be finalized and presented for affirmative acceptance before public launch. If you do not agree, do not register or participate.
2. Adults only; eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, legally capable of agreeing to these Terms, and permitted to participate under the laws and rules applicable where you play. Do not invite minors or help someone evade age requirements. You must provide truthful account and eligibility information. An age affirmation does not guarantee independent age verification; the platform may request additional verification or refuse access when reasonably necessary.
3. Accounts, identities and invitations
Keep your sign-in methods and invitation codes secure. Do not share accounts, impersonate another person, create false identities to evade restrictions, redeem invitations without authorization, or publicly distribute private access codes. Notify the operator through an available support channel if you suspect account compromise. Invitations grant no access to private property, other people's personal information or unauthorized portions of the Service. Account access may be suspended for suspected fraud, misuse or safety concerns.
4. Voluntary participation and withdrawal
Joining a real-world operation is voluntary. Every person directly involved in an interaction must have ongoing, informed consent. You may decline a challenge, stop an interaction, withdraw from a game or ask another player to stop contacting you at any time. Others must honor that request immediately. There is no obligation to complete an assignment, explain your withdrawal to other players or accept unwanted contact. No in-game victory, score, elimination or rule takes precedence over your well-being.
5. Non-negotiable safe-play requirements
Play only during expressly approved times and in appropriate, authorized locations. Respect designated safe zones, venue policies, directions from staff and emergency personnel, property restrictions and all applicable laws. You must not:
- Carry or use firearms, knives, replicas, realistic weapon props, projectiles, chemical sprays, restraints or objects intended to frighten or injure anyone as part of gameplay.
- Chase, corner, physically restrain, grab, push, block, surprise-attack or otherwise touch someone without their explicit permission.
- Stalk, follow, surveil, track, photograph or record someone without consent, or visit their home, workplace or other private location to pursue a target.
- Trespass, enter restricted areas, disrupt businesses, classrooms, hospitals or public services, or involve nonparticipants or bystanders.
- Play while driving, cycling in traffic, operating machinery, or in roads, parking areas or other unsafe conditions.
- Threaten, intimidate, harass, discriminate against or retaliate against anyone who disputes, reports or withdraws.
Bathrooms, locker rooms, medical facilities, schools, private residences, workplaces, roads, vehicles and any location where participation could be mistaken for a threat are prohibited gameplay locations unless a stricter applicable rule already bars them. No Director may authorize conduct otherwise prohibited here. If any situation feels unsafe or attracts unwanted attention, stop the game interaction immediately and move to safety.
6. Director obligations
Directors must invite only eligible and willing adults; explain operation boundaries, permitted hours, safe zones and methods of verification before play; avoid public or sensitive venues; respond promptly to safety complaints; and pause or cancel an operation when safe play cannot be maintained. Directors must not use the game to reveal private target chains, pressure someone to participate or override an expressed refusal. Directors are participants with operational privileges, not law-enforcement personnel, licensed event supervisors or agents authorized to waive third-party rights.
7. Operative obligations; claims and disputes
Operatives must respect the Director's lawful restrictions and these baseline rules. Any elimination claim must concern a safe interaction that everyone directly involved freely agrees to. A claim is not proof of consent or actual elimination. A target may confirm or dispute, and an unanswered, expired or disputed claim is not automatically confirmed. Do not fabricate evidence, coerce a confirmation or retaliate after a dispute. Game status and target assignments may change while claims are reviewed. Directors and the operator may pause play to investigate suspected violations.
8. Incidents and emergencies
Stop participating and tell your Director immediately about threatening conduct, unwanted contact, serious rule violations or suspected safety problems. For immediate danger, injury or suspected criminal activity, contact local emergency services or the appropriate authorities first; do not rely on an in-app message or SMS alert. The platform may remove players, suspend communications, freeze an operation, preserve relevant records when lawful, or report credible threats as appropriate. Reports must be made in good faith; deliberate false reports are prohibited.
9. Acceptable use and user content
Do not upload unlawful, threatening, discriminatory, sexually exploitative, defamatory, invasive, misleading or infringing material. Do not disclose private assignments or another player's personal data, scrape accounts, bypass access controls, attack infrastructure, automate abusive invitations or exploit known vulnerabilities. You retain rights you hold in material you submit, and grant the operator a limited, nonexclusive license to store, display and process it to provide, secure and moderate the Service. Do not submit material you lack the right to share. We may remove content and restrict access consistent with applicable law.
10. Intellectual property and fictional covers
Original Operative Anyone software, text, artwork, branding and design are protected to the extent applicable law allows. These Terms grant only a revocable, personal, nontransferable permission to use the Service as intended; they do not transfer intellectual property ownership. Third-party photographs, fonts, icons and other assets remain governed by their owners' applicable rights and licenses. Harbor Hush Pizza, Kuro Tide Sushi and Wax & Whisper Records are fictional cover experiences. Their menus, inventory, orders, reservations, addresses and other storefront elements are illustrative; no real goods, delivery, tables or services are offered through these experiences.
11. Optional messaging
Operational email may be used for authentication, invitations, security or game communications. Optional SMS requires a separate, affirmative, unselected-by-default consent control and verification of the number you provide. The SMS program provides game-related confirmations and verification, not marketing. Frequency varies with game activity; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for assistance, or disable SMS in account settings. SMS consent is never a condition of using the free browser game. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. See SMS Notifications & Consent and our Privacy Policy.
12. Service availability, interruptions and game cancellation
Features, including experimental SMS and elimination verification, may be changed, delayed, disabled, interrupted or discontinued. We do not guarantee that notifications will arrive, replies will be processed before a deadline or an operation will finish. The Director or operator may pause or cancel games for safety, security, technical or operational reasons. Players should use in-app status where available rather than assuming SMS delivery or silence confirms an outcome. The core game is currently free; future optional purchases will require separately disclosed terms and checkout protections.
13. Privacy and service providers
Our Privacy Policy describes relevant account, gameplay and SMS information, authorized access, service providers and choices. The Service may rely on authentication, hosting, database and messaging providers. Do not post sensitive personal details in game titles, codenames or dispute narratives.
14. No guarantee; allocation of responsibility
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided on an "as available" and "as is" basis without warranties of uninterrupted operation or error-free gameplay. You are responsible for complying with applicable law, obtaining consent and stopping unsafe conduct. These Terms do not excuse the operator's own unlawful conduct or waive consumer protections or other rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
Legal-review item: Any monetary liability cap, indemnity, assumption-of-risk or release of claims must be reviewed by qualified counsel and supported by appropriate procedures. None is silently imposed by this draft.
15. Concerns, complaints and disputes
For gameplay disputes, contact your Director and stop the affected interaction while the matter is reviewed. For security, privacy, legal or operator-conduct concerns, use the platform's published support channel when available. You remain free to contact emergency services, regulators or courts when appropriate. No mandatory arbitration, class-action waiver, exclusive court venue or choice-of-law clause is imposed by this draft. The final operator identity, support contact and dispute provisions require counsel review before public release.
16. Suspension, termination and changes
Access may be limited or terminated to protect participants, prevent abuse, comply with law or maintain service integrity. Withdrawal from a game does not necessarily delete all historical records; privacy requests are addressed separately. Material Terms changes should be communicated and, where required, presented for renewed acceptance. The most recent published effective date and version will identify the applicable document.
17. Contact and publication status
Operative Anyone is in limited testing. The legal operator name, mailing address and dedicated legal/privacy contact have not yet been finalized for this draft. These details are required launch items and must be published before unrestricted enrollment or SMS campaign approval. Until then, participants should use the support instructions supplied directly for their private test, or the Help & FAQ for general game guidance.
